Curiosity by Missy Marie (Part two)

Chapter 1

It was a day like any other, I woke up in my bed on the right side of the room, and walked down the hall to another room, to find my father's bed empty. My name is Kita, short for Kitarena Tsumiya, I'm 18 years old, and I'm a senior in high school. I attend Kenshodoujin High school in Japan with my father trying to find any work that he can manage to keep up rent in our tiny apartment. We live in an average neighborhood, but the crime has started to increase in my area recently, so my dad is constantly worried about me and my safety. My best friend, and bodyguard-slash-protector, Minami Koutaro, is my dad's "saving grace" as he calls her, as she assumes his role as guardian when he isn't around. Minami met me at school on my first day and, despite us not knowing the slightest thing about each other, she instantly took on the role of my protector in school and we've been "besties" ever since. She's taller than me, (by seventeen centimeters!), and much stronger too, so her role as my body guard actually kind of has a natural fit. I remember the way we met like it was yesterday...

"Hey freak!"
"Yeah, hey you! New kid!"
"Hey bitch, we're talkin' to you!"
Three gigantic boys were standing by the school gates hollering at me, after I had just crashed into the most popular boy in school, who had brushed me off like an insect with a "tsk" of his tongue to express his annoyance at my clumsiness, and I was now blindly searching for my glasses on my hands and knees.
I stuttered at the worst possible moment, "W-w-what?"
"Did you seriously just stutter?!"
"PFFT-! LAME!"
"What a loser!"
"You don't even have any friends do you? HA-HA!"
"I can see your panties under your skirt from here! Do you mind bending forward just a little more?"
"Ha ha, yeah! We'd like a view of you that's better than your face!"
I just stood there and took it like I deserved it, frozen in fear and embarrassment, until I heard someone walk up behind me.
"LEAVE HER ALONE," were the words the strong female voice thundered out around me.
"If you've got a problem with her, you have a problem with me, GOT IT?!" She instantly struck fear into the three of them and, with her foot stomped into the ground while her left hand cradled her fist-formed right hand, they scattered like cockroaches do when someone suddenly turns the lights on. But when I looked up expecting a monster, instead, I saw a beautiful girl with fiery yellow-brown eyes, long-curly brown hair to her hips, and a radiantly-defiant smile on her face.
"Hi! I'm Minami Koutaro, but you can call me Mina! I'm 16, and I should be a Second-year, but those bastards held me back a year for fighting... Oh! And I pledge to be your protector from now on, because you obviously need one!"
I was stunned.
How could someone I just met become such an amazing ally? How could a beautiful girl strike fear in the hearts of three boys, who looked like they all belonged on a college football team's roster? How did she do it? Why did she do it? Why did she specifically save me
"H-Hey!" I managed to choke out, "W-W-Why did you save m-me back there?"
She stared at me confusedly
Why is she looking at me like the reason is obvious? Is she split? Crazy?
"Because you're so obviously weak, I just had to help you! And, besides, I'm not about to let a beautiful girl like you, become those idiot guys' play-thing!" she replied with a smile. Say what?
I instantly felt weak, small, and also somewhat-annoyed at her blunt way of speaking, but little did I know that, the longer I hung out with her, the more I'd come to love her!

To be continued...

Curiosity by Missy Marie (Part one)

Introduction

Blood... Blood... Everywhere... Silence... Shadows lurked at every corner of the room as my bloodshot eyes began to devour the nightmarish scene in front of me. My father was dead... but not just dead... he was MURDERED... BUTCHERED even... that's a kind of dead which is altogether different and horrific... but not by human hands, no, this-this... THING held my father's helpless still-beating heart in hand and did nothing but stare in defiance at me as if to boast of it's successful slaughter. My blood slowed its flow through my veins, my heart stopped beating, and I felt an unearthly sense of impending doom surround me, but that wasn't the strangest part of this experience, no, the strangest part of this was that I wasn't afraid. I stared the creature down with my own brand of insensitive madness communicated by nothing more than a simple glint in my eye, and the twitching beginnings of a smirk at the corner of my mouth. This creature stood eleven feet tall to my mere five and a half, had red eyes that stretched the whole length of its elongated facial structure on either side, skin as grey as storm clouds, four legs composed of nothing but pure muscle and deadly reflexive reactions that were beyond any known accuracy, and four arms; two meant for lifting, two meant for tearing flesh.

"Why?" was the only word I managed to choke out at this THING that had just tore my father's life in half and lay to spill out on the floor, "WHY?!" The creature tilted its head to the side and matched up its left eye to mine with no more than a foot of space between us two, as if to examine its test subject in an experiment to check for a reaction. You won't be getting your desired reaction from me you vile demon! "What are you looking for?? Lost something?!" I asked in pure defiance. BINGO! The creature's eyes widened and it took three steps in reverse, obviously taken aback by my reaction, and tilted its head to the opposite side in confusion. "If you want a terrified reaction, then go get someone else, you picked the wrong guinea pig you wretched-pathetic mutated freak!" I spat out my hatred in raw form, erupting from my soul, spewing from my mouth, I went on for what seemed like hours while the creature just sat back observing my half-insane melt-down, with what looked like a smile on its face, as if it enjoyed seeing me explode in my lack of self-control.

It spoke not a word as it observed the girl who's life it had destroyed; whether by accident or on purpose I did not know, but I knew very well that it understood the damage it had done. I crouched on the floor next to my bed and table under my broken window in my pajamas staring at the moonlit face of my father's assailant with a hatred that boiled within and fueled my will to fight despite the tragedy I had just witnessed. My father's blood stained everything but the air itself; the walls were spattered, the ceiling was specked, the bed was soaked, the books on the shelf were dripping, and the floors were thick with the life force that had been so readily drained from him. My clothes were drenched with my father's last drops, his blood had even dried on my arms, feet, and in my hair by now, and the creature's pointed, jagged, razor-sharp smile was the only thing clean and fully visible in the room besides its eyes. "Well?! What are you looking at! You've taken the only family I have left! WHAT DO YOU WANT FROM ME! YOU WANT A FIGHT?! BRING IT ON!" Just then, the creature leaned forward to within an inch of my face, sending me sprawling to my feet in a futile effort to retreat as far away as the wall behind my back would allow. Its breath shedding the unbearable stench of blood and death, and its enormous red eyes staring directly into mine, it uttered the sounds "Ich nachtor yobein machei," and finished with what I could only distinguish as a chuckle, before it touched its finger to my forehead, and everything went black as I crumpled to the floor.
